In July, the Red Cross delegation of Póvoa de Varzim, through CLDS 4G, provided children from the most vulnerable families with various activities.
During 15 days, the children went on trips to different places they didn’t know, visited museums and enjoyed entertainment activities. At the end, meetings were arranged with the children’s families, at a picnic in the city park.
To better serve and feel the joy, the Póvoa de Varzim Red Cross prepared a questionnaire to be answered by the children’s parents, in order to continue to support them.
The answer that was most wanted was: a day of fraternization with the children, a socializing.
As their resources were scarce, on Saturday, October 8, the Red Cross delegation arranged for the parents and children to spend a day in Porto, where they took a boat trip on the Douro River and had lunch in the city park of Porto.
The Red Cross team that accompanied the families came “with a full heart as we observed the contagious joy between parents and children, the sharing of experiences, the interaction between families of emigrants, Ukrainian refugees, multiculturalism! It was a different Saturday! It was worth getting out of the offices and socializing with these families!”
Only the solidarity spirit of Poveiro and some collaborators made it possible to fulfill the dream of these families. According to the local Red Cross delegation, the Municipality offered the bus and the trip on the boat was taken over by: Lions Clube da Póvoa, Dr. Miguel Matos (Animar) Mr. Montenegro (Chuvitex)
Lunch was prepared by Miminho’s cooks and the products offered by: Talho Nova Póvoa, Frutas do Cávado, Cantinho do Zé, Padaria Vaz, Padaria Oliveira, Dona Arminda (homemade patties).
